I would take this dare in a heartbeat
Normally I try to stay current with my movie reviews, but there is one movie in particular I feel I should share with the world. It’s a movie called “Love me if you Dare” or as the french like to call it “ Jeux d’enfants“. This was a movie I came across when I went to a film festival in 2004 and fell in love with it’s drama, magic, and visual beauty.
This is a story about Julien and his new friend Sophie who meet as young children. Julien is dealing with the tragedy of his mother dying, and Sophie is dealing with the stress of living with two parents who are Polish Immigrants in the ghetto. Both are not very popular in school, and one day they bond and form a deep friendship over a tin carousel they find on the street.
Sophie, always one to stand out, turns this childhood curiosity over a tin box, into a fun game of truth or dare. The game is simple, each time someone has hold of the tin carousel the other has to complete a dare. The games start out innocent, with child-like imagination, but as they both grow up, the dares become more involved, more sexual and more intense. Not realizing how connected they truly are to each other, the more involved the dares become, the more tension is filled between them.
After the dares threaten to ruin their bond, they both go their own way to start their own lives, only to meet again 10 years later, and then another 10 years later. On the eve of their final meeting, they unite later in the evening, setting off a series of events that leads to their ultimate fate.
People who are a fan of Gondry films or Amelie will get sucked into it. If you are not able to set your mind free while watching something, then this might be a movie to skip.
